1,000-year-old chief's tomb filled with gold

The Ministry of Culture of Panama announced the discovery of an extraordinary tomb in the archaeological complex of El Caño. Inside were the human remains of several individuals, led by a high-ranking person, literally surrounded by dozens of gold objects, necklaces, earrings, pectorals and a host of other artifacts made of precious metals and fine ceramics.
The El Caño Archaeological Park in Coclé province has long been associated with a culture that created large tomb complexes for the social elite there between 700 and 1000 AD. Earlier excavations had already uncovered richly furnished tombs of chiefs and warriors whose bodies were literally covered in gold.
The existence of Tomb 3 has been known since 2009, but it only came to light this year. It contains a rich tomb of fine pottery with lots of gold jewellery, including earrings, bracelets and large pectorals decorated with bats and crocodiles. Necklaces composed of hollow gold beads, bells and other ornaments were also discovered. Objects made of bone and stone were also part of the equipment.
The gold artefacts of the Coclé culture are not just a demonstration of wealth. Their iconography often depicts mythological creatures, animal motifs, and hybrid figures that reference the spirit world and shamanic traditions. Here, gold was understood not just as a precious metal, but as a material associated with the sun, cosmic order and supernatural authority. The very placement of objects in the tomb suggests an elaborate ritual scenario. The funerary accoutrements may have expressed the position of the deceased during life and also his role in the afterlife.
The site has been systematically investigated for many years, and each new discovery adds to the idea of the social structure of the society of the time. El Caño apparently functioned as a central burial site for regional rulers whose power was closely linked to religious ideas.
The artifacts found will now be subjected to detailed analyses, from metallurgical composition to anthropological examination of the skeletal remains. The results may provide new information about the origins of gold, trade contacts and the health of the elite of the time.

Protože máš harymare prd fantazii. Před časem jsem tady měli nabídku tam jet zahledat od klučiny co tam vlastni ranč se zlatým dolem :) Ale tedy řekl jsem ne :)
Nechlastej
Kuci, já možná nemám fantazii, ale netopýr nemá ruce s prstama. Resp. je má vyvinuté v "křídla". A tvar chodidel a prstů na nich je vyloženě lidský. Páni archeologové mají sice hodně fantazie, ale o anatomii vědí onen prd...
Jinak Máro, to pozvání tiše závidím. Sice je to tam pro našince tak trochu o hubu, ale zase hodně za hranicí všedních dnů...
Je to nádherný. Mam moc rád tu jejich leštěnou keramiku. Dost bych si tam vyhrál.
