Archaeologists have discovered toys in Uherské Hradiště that children played with hundreds of years ago. Specifically, clay and glass marbles, small vessels or a miniature piece of a spindle. In the grounds of the monastery at Velehrad, archaeologists found an intact Romanesque mosaic pavement.

The most interesting find was a well-preserved ceramic doll, which had a realistically depicted face, hairstyle and clothing.

"Here we have a doll with a realistically depicted face and hairstyle. Similar dolls are rarely found in Moravia, we know them mainly from Germany. We also unearthed two fragments of knights sitting on horses," said archaeologist Jaroslav Bartík. The doll was discovered by archaeologists in Uherské Hradiště.

They also found medieval ceramic toys, which are very rare. They are very rarely found. The day before the archaeologists wanted to finish the excavation, they came across the remains of buildings from prehistoric, high medieval and modern times. The oldest date from the ash-field culture.

"The beginnings of settlement here date back to the second half of the 13th century. In the High Middle Ages, i.e. until the end of the 15th century, there were gradually several timber-clay houses with sunken basements," Bartík pointed out.

According to him, the discovery of a late Gothic cellar with a partially preserved portal and a stone staircase is very rare. From the early and high modern period, he mentioned especially the torsos of several pyrotechnic devices made either of stones and bricks or of unfired bricks.

"At least one of these objects can be interpreted with certainty as the remains of the firing chamber of a ceramic kiln," Bartík added.

Attention was also drawn to a jug decorated with griffin motifs, a wolf's tooth and a circular rosette, as well as the discovery of a leather, piercingdecorated with a belt, which represents one of the few preserved leather artifacts in the historic core of Uherský Brod

The site of the former monastery at Velehrad also yielded interesting finds. In addition to the already mentioned mosaic, there is also a cutlery shank carved from bone or two silver coins from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Remains of a mosaic from the thirteenth century were then discovered in the original monastery refectory where the monks used to have lunch.
