4 months with Minelab Go-Find 40

Greetings to all treasure hunters

I bought my 9 year old a new metal detector Minelab Go-Find 40 4 months ago. When we pulled off the trail on a planned family trip and stopped in Jílové near Prague to pick up the new detector for his birthday, my son's eyes lit up with joy like two unmissable beacons.

Nothing less everything he knew about metal detectors so far (he had a CScope CS440XD before) did not apply and he had to learn everything from scratch (control and signal evaluation) and I with him. I was pleasantly surprised by the detector's lightness (approx. 1 kg), mobility, foldability, ease of operation and long battery life.

On the border where his old detector ended, this new detector from Minelab Go-Find 40 started. Thanks to its separation properties, it stopped digging iron in bulk and non-ferrous metals started to dominate. I must say that even coins or other small objects started to appear in his hands and his enjoyment of this hobby only grew.

A common larger coin is easily found by this detector down to a depth of 20 cm and larger metal objects such as a horseshoe up to 40 cm. Unfortunately, for very small coins (e.g. silver coins from around 1700 and older), the detection is much weaker up to 5 cm. For a metal detector at this price level, I didn't really expect such performance and it was a pleasant surprise for me as well.

One thing is different than other detectors and it took time for my boyfriend to learn how to use the detector to get some results and that is the constant oscillationnot only when searching but also when tracking using the Pinpoint function, even though the description says it's a motionless tracking mode (this is especially true for small targets).

If you learn how to use this detector, then you will be happy with it and not only your children. Personally, I occasionally borrow it from my son if we are going on a family trip somewhere and I don't take my Minelab E-Trac with me on a planned hunt J

In conclusion, for young children and beginners, the Minelab Go-Find 40 metal detector can only be recommended.
