A search engine found a monument to the English Civil War with a metal detector on St Aubin Beach in Jersey. He discovered a rare pistol that has a complex mechanism typical of weapons from the early sixteenth century.

The weapon was discovered by a metal detector Tony Collins and did not hide his joy. The pistol is relatively well preserved for its age. It was located in the so-called black sand, in which there is not much oxygen. For Collins, this is his least rare find so far. Search with metal detectors at the time went four years.

"I did not expect to find anything in that particular place. I was alone on the beach. When I pulled the gun out of the sand, at first I wasn't sure what it was. But then we noticed the mechanism and processing of the weapon and it was clear to me that I was probably holding something rare in my hand, "recalled the happy finder.

The authenticity of the weapon was later confirmed by Neil Mahrer of the Jersey Museum. "Quite a lot of weapons have been found in the later period of our history, but this new one is especially rare. It has remained virtually intact, even though it dates back to the English Civil War. It is a very special object, "said conservator Neil Mahrer.

It is relatively rare among local treasure hunters. Nine years ago, for example, he commented on the discovery of 50,000 Celtic silver coins, which was one of the greatest treasures ever found in Europe. The total weight was an incredible three-quarters of a ton.

Reg Mead and Richard Miles found a treasure worth ten million dollars. They discovered him when they were returning to a place in the field where they had dug up some coins a few weeks earlier. The founder of the weapon from the English Civil War, Tony Collins, hoped that his finding would reach the museum, where it would be exhibited. But this process sometimes takes a year. The weapon is rusted, so it is necessary to entrust it to an expert who will try to renovate it as best as possible. The English Civil War took place between 1642 and 1651 and ended with the victory of Parliament at the Battle of Worcester. It is estimated that England, Scotland and Ireland lost about ten percent of their population during the war.
