Metal Detector Ratings C.Scope CS2MX

Categories: C.Scope - Reviews and tests , C.Scope CS3MXi metal detector

We originally wanted to translate Desi Dunne's test, which was published in The Searcher magazine (you can find a link to download the original English version at the end of the article), but our own review is the best. Since quite a few searchers here already have this detector, and it has passed through the hands of some people on LP, I guess we can describe absolutely everything about this detector. Moreover, I myself have used the CS3MX and CS3MXi detectors and still have the CS6 detector . :-)

The CS2MX is based on the proven line of the original CS3. It follows the 2MX that the factory used to make, but not many people will remember that as it was a really long time ago. :-).

The design of the detector is solid. It's not just the electronics box, but also the PCB placement. In this respect the philosophy of C.Scope has not changed, they still make detectors to serve you for decades if possible. The detector is fitted with the now perfectly proven 8" concentric coil (new version with thin profile). The production of the coils is strictly guarded by C.Scope and their process, where the probe is aged for several days, is very unique. As a result, the coils, which have plastic on both the top and bottom, are perfectly watertight. In addition, there is no risk of the bottom casting chipping off, as is the case with conventional 2D coils.

The controls are perfectly spartan, with two rotary controls and a motionless mode button. To properly adjust the sensitivity, turn the sensitivity control from left to right until the treshold tone sounds. Then back off slightly. Treshold should be quite indistinctly audible.

On the discrimination control, you will find the All Metal setting on the far left. In this mode the detector is most sensitive and responds to all metal objects. If you turn the dial, there will be a click and you will start to discriminate gradually. It should be written here that less is always more and the maximum level of discrimination I would see in our conditions is number 3. But already at number 1 you are able to put a number of iron objects away. A fairly simple equation applies, the greater the discrimination setting, the lesser the range will also be.

Practice in use

The CS2MX is a really fast machine and it's good, if you have such a detector, to be able to take advantage of that. Especially when we are in the price range up to 8000 CZK. It will easily leave all digital detectors behind in this regard. Also the range on small and medium targets is very good. Especially small Ag coins really "like" the detector. It follows that a field full of handcuffs, where you are trying to detect small targets, such as small Ag coins, is the bestlocation where you can really show off your detector for a few crowns to competitors with much more expensive devices.

Personally, I always recommend setting the discriminator as low as possible. You can easily go for settings 1 to 2. Larger irons may indeed echo, but with practice you can also tell by running over the edge of such an object that it will be iron. In addition, large irons literally have an echo signal, which a tiny agco will never do. I know a number of prospectors who have been able to tune their CS3MX to absolute perfection and can recognize not only irons, but also "papers" (tiny foils).

The motionless tracking mode is quite sharp, but the detector response is so fast that I don't use it much. I'm used to crosshatching and stick with it all the time. It can be a good and quick help to many searchers though.

The CS2MX is a very good detector for anyone who wants to start searching and is looking for something really reliable. Plus, in today's digital age, he wants to take a break from LCDs and other gadgets and rely on one-tone identification. If you know at least a little English or are happy with machine translation, perhaps in Google Translate, you can download Desi Dunne's test, which was published in The Searcher magazine.
