The largest Celtic gold treasure of the 20th century stolen, it took 9 minutes

Categories: Nálezy nejenom s detektorem v západní Evropě

In the early hours of Tuesday 22 November, a hoard of gold coins dating from the turn of the 2nd and 1st centuries BC was stolen during a break-in at the Celtic and Roman Museum in Manching, near Munich. 483 Celtic coins made of "Bohemian" gold were stolen and the Bavarian police have launched an international investigation.

At 1:17 a.m., several fibre-optic lines of a telecommunications hub near the museum were severed, disrupting internet and telephone connections for more than 13,000 homes and businesses in Manching, including the museum itself. This disconnected the alarm system that links the museum's security system to the police. Exactly nine minutes later, the museum's emergency exit was breached and two bulletproof security glass cases were smashed. By 1:33, the thieves and their coins were gone. No one registered the break-in until staff arrived in the morning, and police did not arrive until 9:45.

The largest Celtic gold find of the 20th century was discovered in 1999 at the site of a Celtic oppidum in Manching. It contained a gold ingot and 483 shell-shaped buoy staters from the late 2nd century BC. The coins found in a sack under the foundations of the building were made of Bohemian river gold, which shows, among other things, how the Manching area was connected to trade networks in central Europe during the Iron Age.

The treasure has been on display as the museum's core collection since 2006. Authorities and experts fear that thieves will not be able to sell the coins, and even though their historical value exceeds 1.6 million euros (about 39 million crowns), they prefer to melt the coins down and sell them for only the value of the gold. Each coin weighs 7.3 grams and with a total weight of the hoard of about four kilograms, at current prices the gold would be worth about 250,000 euros (about 6 million crowns).

Dozens of investigators are now working on the case. Guido Limmer, deputy head of the Bavarian state criminal police office, said that between the robbery in Manching, the theft of of €119 million worth of precious jewels in Dresden and a large gold coin worth €3.7 million in Berlin in recent years, there are parallels: "We cannot say whether there is a connection. Only this much: We are in contact with colleagues to explore all possibilities," he said, adding that Interpol and Europol had been contacted and a 20-strong special investigation unit, code-named "Oppidum", had been set up.

Bavarian Science and Arts Minister Markus Blume added that the evidence pointed to the work of professionals. "It is clear that you cannot simply march into a museum and take away such a treasure," he told public broadcaster BR. "It is highly secure, which is why we suspect this is a case of organised crime."

V bezpečí není nikde nic to slovo bych zrušil

No asi tak vysoce zabezpečený nebyl.

Rozbili Neprůstřelné a Nerozbitné sklo ?!
🤔🤔🤔 z ceho to sklo bylo ? Z cukrkandlu ?

To zlato má specifické složení a nelze jej zfalšovat..

Klidně ty startéry koupim sz... 8-)

Dannyho parťáci

Jinak jestli se nepletu, tohle muzeum už jednou někdo vybral? :-/
