Unistellar
Unistellar is a French company specialized in the development and production of advanced astronomical telescopes that combine traditional optics with modern digital technologies. Their goal is to make space observation accessible to the general public through easy-to-use and powerful instruments.
History and development
Unistellar was founded in 2015 in Marseille, France by a group of enthusiastic programmers and astronomers, including Laurent Marfisi, Antonin Borot, Arnaud Malvache and Franck Marchis. The company received support from startup incubators Incubateur Impulse and Pépinières d'Entreprises Innovantes, followed by investments from private investors and venture capital firm Brighteye Ventures. In 2017, Unistellar presented a prototype of its electronic telescope at CES in Las Vegas and IFA Next in Berlin.
Main products and technologies
1. eVscope Series:
-
eVscope 2: This model combines traditional optics with digital image processing, allowing observers to see faint deep space objects in real time with high resolution and color detail. It features auto-guidance and the ability to link to a mobile app for easy operation.
-
eVscope eQuinox: A variant without an integrated eyepiece that offers longer battery life and is designed for users who prefer to observe via mobile devices.
2. Odyssey series:
- Odyssey: A newer model with improved design and functionality, aimed at users looking for a high-performance, easy-to-use telescope for astrophotography and visual observation.
3:
-
Enhanced Vision Technology.
-
Automatic Guidance: An integrated system that allows the telescope to automatically identify and track astronomical objects without the need for manual calibration.
-
Connection to a mobile app: Users can control the telescope through the Unistellar app available for iOS and Android, which offers features such as selecting objects to observe, sharing images and accessing science campaigns.
Collaborations and science initiatives
Unistellar has partnered with the SETI Institute to create a global network of amateur astronomers who can contribute to scientific discovery through their observations. Users of Unistellar telescopes can participate in campaigns to observe exoplanets, asteroids and other astronomical phenomena.
Awards and recognition
Unistellar has won several awards for innovation in astronomical instruments, including the T3 Platinum Award for the eVscope 2. The company is also recognized for its contribution to popularizing astronomy and engaging the general public in scientific research.
Unistellar's combination of advanced technology, user-friendliness and the ability to get involved in science projects has made it a major player in the field of modern amateur astronomy.
