Fuji Tecom NPL-100 is a sophisticated tool for finding non-metallic pipes. Using a "vibrator" connected to the output of the line, it emits sound waves through the water in the pipe . This sound wave is detected by the NPL-100, or its sensitive receiver, which allows accurate monitoring of the pipeline. The signal strength and frequency can be remotely controlled from the receiver until you can set the optimal pipe resonance. However, the NPL-100 now also has an automatic tuning function for tuning the resonant frequency of all lines.

As shown in the following figure, the sound wave signal is transmitted to the water (which is under pressure) inside the underground pipe from the fire hydrant by means of a vibrator, which is part of the NPL-100 locator, and the transmitted signal reaches the earth's surface. The NPL-100 locator sensor detects a sound wave signal on the earth's surface and the receiver amplifies it so that the signal can be transmitted by the headphones and the displayed deviation of the meter.

As part of a preliminary survey to prevent damage to the pipeline and map the correct drawings, the NPL-100 locator detects the location, direction and bend of all types of water pipelines. The sound wave signal of the NPL-100 locator is not affected by the magnetic field, and the filter built into its receiver picks up external interfering sounds such as traffic and footstep sound. The user can tune the frequency of the sound wave at the resonant point of each pipe using a radio wave remote control located on the side of the receiver. The NPL-100 locator can locate non-metallic pipes such as asbestos and PVC, as well as metal pipes, including iron pipes with insulating joints.
