Detectorists in cooperation with archaeologists discovered a 14th century battlefield

Hundreds of arrowheads and crossbows dating back to the first half of the 14th century were found in the forest area of Biała Góra near Sanok, Poland. They probably come from the battle of the last Piast king Casimir III. Great, who conquered several small fortresses in the area around 1340.

In Poznan, Poland, archaeologists have discovered part of a defensive wall from the late 10th century. A rescue survey prior to the construction of a new apartment building uncovered a massive stone and wooden wall seven metres below the current ground level. 1,000-year-old graves of Scandinavian warriors found in Poland

Four richly furnished graves found in the middle of the medieval cemetery of the village of Ciepłe in eastern Poland contained the remains of Scandinavian men with complete armour. The furnishings and type of graves differed from all the others. The warriors have therefore raised many questions among archaeologists and historians, including who they were, why they are buried here and where they came from. The last question has only recently been answered by DNA analysis.

Search for Holocaust victims

Investigators from the Institute of National Memory (IPN) have announced the discovery of another massgrave near the site of the Treblinka I extermination camp during World War II. Scientists from other institutions were also invited to join the research. It is not yet clear how many of the dead are in the pit, which measures roughly 3.4 by 4.5 metres.
