19.10.2014 Germany returns painting seized by Nazis

Almost 70 years after the war, Germany returned to Poland a rare painting that the Nazis stole for Hitler's museum. Specifically, it was a work by the Venetian painter Francesco Guardi, entitled "The Palace Staircase". But the search is still on for thousands of works of art that have disappeared to parts unknown.

My friend Václav dragged me to a search near Mariánské Lázně. A little while after turning on the detector, a nice signal came. And with it, a nice surprise. In one hole were a silver bracelet, a US collar badge, a ribbon with a bronze star and a Swiss 5 Rappen 1938...

Almost half a meter on the ground was a preserved engine of a Messerschmitt Bf fighter which was shot down in 1945 during the liberation of Brno. The parts were found only ten years ago and went to the Moravian Museum.

In connection with Adolf Hitler and his death, another mystery emerged in 2009. Nick Bellantoni examined a skull fragment that is being kept as Hitler's remains in Moscow. He claims it belonged to a woman.

Nine years ago, Bohuslav Veselý found a suitcase in the garden of his house containing items belonging to General František Moravec. The suitcase with uniforms and a sabre was buried on the property by a friend of his family. The general fled from the Nazis to England.

The remains of the original German inhabitants were buried near Deštné. It was speculated that they were murdered at the end of World War II. But their exact identities have not been established.

In 2016, archaeologists discovered a legendary tunnel dug by Jews during the Holocaust in the hope of escaping the Nazis. It is located in the forests near the Lithuanian capital Vilnius.
