Oh, shit! A little cultural history of a quiet town

until 4 July 2024

The history of going to the toilet impressively reflects the lives and experiences of people from different eras. For example, the infrastructure of sewage disposal in major Roman cities has always been fascinating. From today's perspective, however, the idea of people relieving themselves in castles, villages and towns in the Middle Ages is somewhat far-fetched.

The special exhibition also highlights cleanliness and hygiene in antiquity, the splendour of Roman latrines, the decline of formerly advanced cultures in the Middle Ages and the organised disposal of faeces in the 19th century, the age of industrialisation. All this and more can be learned at the exhibition.
