So finally it's the turn of Minelab's Go-Find

Categories: Minelab – tests and reviews , Detektory kovů Minelab Go Find

We were actually brought to testing by a friend who was crying a bit that there are simply no articles about beginner detectors and when something comes out, it is in the style of "professional detector for little money". He bought a GoFind 40 for the "young" guy, but confiscated it and has been tinkering with it himself for a few months, and even though he uses a number of professional instruments, he was thrilled with the Go Find.

Zukoš testing the 40 in the field

We haven't really tested the whole range ourselves. So, when we had a nice day in February, it was time to do a proper analysis of the range and also the separation properties.

Metal detector Minelab Go Find 20

Ironically, my biggest experience is with the Go Find 20, which our Ondra uses. It's the first detector he really started to enjoy searching with. His wheels started "falling off" with it and at that point he didn't want anything else. For a 9-10 year old boy, it's the perfect device. A detector that can handle a range of 1c in 23cm and even small Ag coins like the FJI 20k can detect in 20cm, which is over the top for a kid with a relatively small scoop. The operation is really easy. You set the sensitivity to the maximum, decide whether or not you want to "hear" the tone of the iron and go looking.

The 20 is not a kid's detector though, for relatively little money, it does more than many digital detectors priced under 10,000 CZK. This applies to both range and separation, which is clearly the best of anything on the market for a digital detector under 5,000 CZK!

The construction of the detector also deserves a comment. The portability is really quite extraordinary and the detector can be put in a small backpack for every trip. Just like the 40 and 60 versions. So far I have not had a single service, which is quite extraordinary for a detector in the lowest price class.

Easy to use: adjust sensitivity, discrimination and volume. Targets are identified tonally (iron grunts, colored whistles) and the LCD flashes the appropriate segment where the object belongs by its surface conductivity.

Go Find 40 metal detector

Currently the best-selling model in the Go Find range, prospectors clearly appreciate the larger 25cm probe and on the other hand will covet everything the 60 has in addition. The range on the 1c is about 25 cm and the 20c FJI in 22 cm. But it's definitely a detector that can handle small targets like a small grackle. As you can see in the video, a coin of this size lying flat can be handled by the 40 in about 18 cm.

The 40 is thus a full-size detector that is very well packable. Compared to the 20, it offers a larger coil, wider sensitivity settings, backlighting, a motionless tracking mode and the possibility to use a smartphone app that can be connected via Bluetooth.

Easy to use: 4-step sensitivity, discrimination and volume settings. Targets are identified tonally (iron grunts, colored whistles) and the LCD flashes the corresponding segment where the object belongs by its surface conductivity. The detector has an LCD backlight that can be switched off, a motionless mode and also bluetooth to connect the detector with a smartphone.

Go Find 60 metal detector

The best detector in the Go Find range is a very interesting choice for all first time prospectors, but also for the more experiencedFor more experienced metal detectors, who are looking for a lightweight and as portable as possible detector for holidays or hiking (the detector can also fit in a cycling bag) etc. The range of the detector during the tests was as follows: 1Kčs 26 cm, FJI in 23 cm, grešlička 20 cm.

The detector has the widest sensitivity setting of the whole range, there is also an extra evaluation of the conductivity of the target in the LED bar, it works very well. Not only will the LEDs show if the target is paint or iron, but also by the number of segments it will show how strong the received signal is.

Easy to use: adjust sensitivity in 5 steps, discrimination and volume. Targets are identified tonally (iron grunts, colored whistles) and the LCD flashes the corresponding segment where the object belongs by its surface conductivity. The detector has an LCD backlight that can be switched off, a motionless mode and also bluetooth to connect the detector with a smartphone. The LED bar on the LCD determines both the conductivity of the metal and the strength of the signal.

Overall rating of the entire range

Personally, I have to appreciate that Minelab didn't make some sort of brushed up X-Terra 20 or 10. Simply a detector that the under 10,000 price class is full of and often resembles like an egg to an egg. All three detectors have great storage and very decent range, at least compared to devices in their class.

On the other hand, the foldable design may not suit everyone and the highly conservative search world is sometimes slower to get used to such innovations than the detector makers might wish. The plastic construction has also been discussed quite often. It is lightweight and since a good number of Go Finds have already been sold, it certainly doesn't "fall apart". What should then be highlighted is the trouble-free operation. We haven't had a single service on the Go Find range of detectors and although LP is a Minelab service centre (we also currently repair detectors from Poland, Slovakia, Lithuania etc) there hasn't been a single complaint to date. I'm sure there will be some in time, after all everything breaks, but for cheap beginner detectors...:-)

Tak teď už nemusím :-) 40tku dostal malej k vánocům a chodí s tím i moje Péťa a loví solidní věci z dobrých hloubek.

Asi to nějak upravím, až bude čas.

Hle! Dalsi levny detektor ktery je casto lepsi nez digitalni okolo 10tisic. Akurat nikdy nenapisete ktery...

To vikic: přijeď otestuj sám.
