Two unique detector finds worth millions stolen from museum

One of the largest gold neckpieces from the Bronze Age, worth CZK 6.4 million, was stolen. On Tuesday 7. May 7, thieves broke into the Ely Museum in the early hours of the morning and purposely stole two meatIn addition to the necklace, there was also a heavy gold bracelet from the Bronze Age. Experts fear that the objects will be melted down and their cultural and historical value will disappear forever.
Both artefacts were discovered using metal detectors in East Cambridge. The massive gold heavy bracelet in 2011, the necklace four years later. The spiral twist necklace is over 147cm long and weighs 732 grams. It is also exceptional in its purity: it contains 87% gold and 13% silver, making it 21 carat gold by today's standards. Both objects date from between 1300 and 1100 BC.
"The neckpiece is one of the most important Bronze Age finds ever made in England," said Dr Wilkin, curator of Bronze Age collections at the British Museum. "It's the largest of its kind in the whole of Europe and its diameter is bigger than a grown man's trousers you can buy in a shop today," he added, adding the neckpiece could have been worn over bulky clothing or fur, but its actual use remains a puzzle: "We don't necessarily know why, but we think it was a gift to the gods to ensure a good harvest or a healthy family. I reckon this could be made into 10 smaller items, so it's a really big offering and a sign of wealth and status."
After the necklace was designated a treasure and valued at £220,000 (about £6,400,000), it was acquired by the Ely Museum in 2017 thanks to generous public collections and grants, including £138,600 from the National Heritage Memorial Fund. It was on display just a month later, until recently, when it was stolen from the museum: 'We are devastated by the loss of the museum and the region's heritage. This is a huge blow after the incredible community support in 2017. As a culturally significant object it cannot be replaced. Our priority now is to work with the police to locate the stolen items," said Elie Hughes, Museum Curator.
The 700-year-old museum building was extensively remodeled in 2021, including secured entrances and other security features. However, the break-in was very quick and completely targeted. Experts now fear that the all-too-famous necklace is virtually unsellable, and that for this reason, along with the massive bracelet, it will be melted down and degraded to mere gold value.
Cambridgeshire police are investigating the crime. They are currently searching for two people who were spotted on e-scooters around the museum between midnight and 2am on Tuesday.

Takový krásný dílo aby někdo roztavil, to by bylo na vraždu. Doufám, že to skončí u nějaké miliardáře a že jeho potomci to vrátí. Klidně ať je to několik století ztracený, ale hlavně ať to není ztracený navždy.

přátelé, kdo má aspoň trocha estetického cítění a ctí umné ruce a ví něco málo o historii, ten musí při této ztrátě zaplakat, nebo minimálně praštit do stolu /hlavou/, tohle fakt posra-i
no, stalo se, nevěšme hlavy, ono po bitvě je každej generál, /nebo minimálně maršálek (né josef)/, v můzeu toho zůstalo ještě dosti, co by stálo za ukradení, určitě bych doporučil vyšší třídu zabezpečení

Člověk by čekal, že v Anglii si tohle pohlídaj. Neříkám tady - třeba v Bydžově tuším byla normálně loupež, kdy tam svázali ředitele nebo co, a odnesli vzácné obrazy, a mimo jiné i zlaté mince, mezi nimi statér z české řady Aténa Alkidémos, který byl jediným známým kusem. Je fakt, že si nedokážu představit, jak by se takové drobné lokální muzeum bránilo ozbrojené loupeži. Ať si to odnesou, než kdyby měli někoho odprásknout, ale pak to trochu svádí, že takové poklady by měly být jen v Národním, kde je bezpečnost na úrovni.
áno, kdejaká vietnamská večerka je líp zabezpečená, to video mi připomnělo, jak jsme jako haranti lozili do boudy u zimního stadionu pro polámaný hokejky, no pomalu při stejné námaze si tidle ale odnesli kilo zlata 
- já myslím, že o to zlato nešlo, že to bylo objednaný, že se nic tavit nebude
- po tomdle se snad někdo zamyslí a udělá patřičná opatření, člověk je odjakživa zloděj, kradou i zvířata, dokonce i já
Luke přesně jak píšeš... Kdo nekrade okrádá svoji rodinu v práci, na ulici, atd... A s detektorem na cizích pozemcích, a v hloubce pod 30 cm ( je vše státu) 
Ty kráso, ten tordovanej nákrčník... 
Taková hrouda, to jsem fakt neviděl.
Za tohle by se měli bez pardonu zlodějům sekat ruce a bezpečákům muzea nasekat 50 ran holí přes hřbet.🤦♂️
