New findings about the burial ground from the time of the migration of peoples in Sendražice

In 2019, archaeologists discovered a unique 5th-century female tomb with rich equipment in Sendražice near Hradec Králové. It is one of a total of six tombs found here from the early period of migration. Five of them were looted, but the intact log cabin grave contained an amazing collection of artifacts of a high-ranking woman. This is an unprecedented finding in the Czech Republic.

7.3.2009 The dead had coins and antlers in the grave

The new discovery was announced by Brno archaeologists twelve years ago. They discovered a Slavic burial ground with fifteen skeletons in Modřice near Brno. Some of them had charity as a ferry coin or antlers for good luck.

19.2.2010 Unique engraved drawing at Prague Castle

A unique engraved drawing was discovered by archaeologists eleven years ago at Prague Castle. It was during rescue research of the so-called Middle Wing, where the information centre is located. It was the first such find on the territory of the capital.

15.2.2015 The square hid centuries-old graves

A large burial site hundreds of years old was discovered by archaeologists right in the centre of Horažďovice in the Klatovy region. It was hidden under a sidewalk. Among the most interesting is the grave of a pregnant woman buried with scissors and a medallion.

Sixteen years ago, archaeologists reported that the December 2004 tsunami helped uncover another part of the ancient port city of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, India. The killer waves shifted thousands of tons of sand. Suddenly, granite statues that scientists say are the remains of a seventh-century civilisation were on display.

A beautiful Roman mosaic was found by unknown searchers in Turkey. It was in the middle of a field. But the finders damaged it and the local museum took over its protection.

Fast food in Pompeii

A complete counter, which was part of a fast food restaurant, was excavated by archaeologists in Pompeii. They also found the remains of snail, fish and pork. It's an extremely rare discovery.
