As the name of this period suggests, this is a period of human history when stone is widely used to make tools. During the same period, parts of caught animals, such as antlers or bones, are also used to make tools. Along with the most used type of flint stone, various types of wood are also widely used.
This period of human history is very long, its beginning can be traced back to about 3 million years BC. The period lasts up to a period of approximately 4000 BC.

Prehistoric people were able to create enchanting tools out of stone. Especially in the late Neolithic periods, stone tools are perfect works of period craftsmen. Whether it is axes, darts or various types of scrapers, we are always surprised by their perfection. The opposite may be the study of such instruments in the earliest Paleolithic periods. Here, every archaeologist needs a lot of imagination to discover an ancient tool in a piece of roughly worked stone.

Traditional division of the Stone Age

Paleolithic - the period lasts until the 11th millennium BC
Mesolithic - the period lasts until the 8th millennium BC
Neolithic - the period lasts until the 5th millennium BC
Eneolithic - the period lasts until about the 3rd millennium BC

In the traditional division of the historical stages of humanity after the Stone Age, the Bronze Age follows. In many localities, however, it is possible to consider a separate copper age. In particular, these are localities where copper veins protrude to the surface and could thus be processed by the classical blacksmith method.
