Thousands of Stone Age tunnels were discovered by archaeologists ten years ago. It is a truly unique system that stretches across Europe. They connect Scotland with distant Turkey.
Archaeologist Heinrich Kusch has written about the tunnels in his book Secrets of the Underground Door to an Ancient World. "The tunnels were not very big. Some are only seventy centimetres high and you can't walk through them normally, you have to crouch. Just bigger wormholes," Kusch wrote.
Scientists are puzzled. In fact, they don't even know what the original purpose of the vast tunnels is. "It's a huge underground network. In some places they are bigger and there are sitting or storage rooms," Kusch further wrote.
Some experts believe this network protected humans from predators. There's also a theory that some of the interconnected tunnels served the function of today's highways, so people could travel safely regardless of wars or weather.
There are often chapels at the entrances. Probably because the church feared paganism. It wanted to strengthen its influence. "The Church was afraid of the history of the tunnels and the fact that they existed. They didn't want them to be known," Kusch explained. Researchers have even found documents that refer to the tunnels as gateways to the underworld.
"In Bavaria, Germany, alone, we found a network of tunnels seven hundred meters long. In Styria, Austria, we found another 350 metres. Then there were thousands of them all over Europe, from the north in Scotland to the Mediterranean," Kusch added.
Scientists believe that this is indeed a large underground network of tunnels based on several clues. For example, in Turkish Cappadocia there is the huge underground city of Derinkuyu. The stone here is very soft, which required extreme skill on the part of the city's builders.
Similar tunnel networks can be found outside Europe. In America, for example, they have old stories that speak of vast mysterious passages. Some of the myths even talk about how the first prehistoric people emerged from underground caves.

Titulek jak z bulváru. Někdo se domnívá, že ta síť tunelů je propojená a hned je doměnka jako tvrzení v nadpisu. Překážky na vybudování takové dálnice: Lamanšský průliv a problémy s průsakem vody. Tvrdé horniny jako žula, rula atd. Kde z ocelovým špičákem postoupíte tak o 5mm za den. 1 km by trval tak 500let. Určitě nebude spojitá měkká skála od Skotska do Turecka. Holt ta fantazie. U nás se třeba traduje, že hrad Payrek je propojen podzemní chodbou až s hradem Klenová. Přes 10km v tvrdé hornině. My z těch našich předků děláme supermany.

Po nás zůstanou akorát tunely veřejných financí ala Babiš a spol. 
To bobik: já to vidím úplně stejně a ještě jsem si k tomu dohledával zdroje.... Je to taková čirá fantazie .) Jak asi ty lidi před 10 000 lety kopali 1000 km dlouhý tunel o průměru 1 metr. 
Je to debilně napsané, ale já to nechápu , že je Turecko propojené tunelem se Skotskem- což je idiocie . Rozumím tomu tak, že v tomto pásmu je mimořádné množství tunelů, stovky metrů dlouhých ( 700 m,350 m), případně tunelových sítí - nikoliv propojených . ...Jinak zatahování politiky do této rubriky nepovažuji za žádoucí - sem jdu, abych nemusel číst politické ničemnosti.
Tunely nejsou politika, to už je folklor.
Jinak definice titulku.Titulek by měl být krátký, výstižný a poutavý. Dneska na internetu z toho vypadává to výstižný a dominuje poutavý. 
To Elmara: chce to používat hlavu a selskou logiku. V pravěku bezne domestikovali zvěř, takže cvičení krtkomuti by to v pohodě zvládli 
To asi ano, navíc mít svojí vycvičenou krtkomoutí smečku by se hodilo :)
To jo no . Zvlášť s věkem
