"This is the Iron Age..." The Hallstatt Age in the heart of Moravia

Categories: Invitations

19. 12. 2023 - 28. 4. 2024
Comenius Museum in Přerov

The exhibition will present the most significant archaeological findings from Central Moravia, including the territory of the Přerov region, and will put them in the context of the significant European epoch of the earlier Iron Age, when iron began to be used but at the same time fundamental changes in the social structure of prehistoric society occurred.

The monuments of this period in Central Moravia were left by the bearers of the Platenic group, belonging to the East-Halstatic culture. The significant social differentiation of the communities and especially the rise of the elite class, in whose hands economic and political power was concentrated, is clearly reflected in archaeological findings, of which we can mention e.g. The richly furnished chambered tombs, or the mass finds of luxury objects.

The visitor will also be introduced to the historical context of the 8th - mid-5th century BC, Contemporaries of "barbarian" extra-Apennine Europe - the advanced societies of the Iron Age Mediterranean (Etruscans, Greeks, etc.) will be introduced. In addition to the archaeological finds, the exhibition will be accompanied by numerous reconstructions of important archaeological situations, both three-dimensional and pictorial.
