The Celestron NexStar 130 SLT electronically guided Newtonian reflector has something to offer anyone interested in stargazing through a telescope, whether a novice or an advanced user. With a simple Alt-Azimuth mount, driven by servo motors in both axes, and equipped with SkyAlign pointing technology, the telescope is functional and ready to use in minutes.
The most important new feature of the NexStar series is the SkyAlign™ system, which allows you to make initial telescope adjustments without having to know the names of the objects you are pointing at. In order for the telescope to guide, i.e., to find the objects you select from an internal database, it must know the sky - i.e., it must know the directions to the actual stars in the sky. To create a sky model, you need to manually enter the exact date and time , time zone (Europe +1 hrs), daylight saving time (Yes/No) and the geographical coordinates of where you are in the telescope controller. The instrument will then create a model of the current night sky. In the second step you need to match the model with reality. You point the binoculars at any three bright objects in the sky (except for aircraft and satellites) in turn, center the object in the field of view, and the binoculars identify the object themselves without the need to know and enter their names. In addition to bright stars, the moon or planets can also be used. As soon as the telescope displays the message Alignment successful on the controller, the preparation is complete and the observing can begin. The telescope will navigate itself to the selected object from the controller menu. The database contains more than 4.000,- objects. If the observer wants to go through the most interesting objects in the sky, he just needs to select the Tour function, i.e. the tour of the currently visible objects in the night sky. These models of stargazing telescopes are mainly intended for visual observation, the azimuthal mount makes astrophotography difficult.
The electronically guided telescope is powered by a set of 8 AA batteries (conventional pencil batteries). The telescope will last approximately one observing night on a set of batteries. We recommend the use of rechargeable batteries. You can also connect the binoculars to a power source with a mains adapter, but this must be purchased separately.
NexStar optics are among the best in their class. The NexStar 130SLT is a Newtonian reflector with two mirrors. One is a small secondary mirror in front of the optical tube on a spider mount, with a 45 degree tilt. The diameter of the primary mirror is 130 mm. It is a high quality multi-layer parabolic mirror, coated with aluminium, providing an excellent and sharp image. The focal length of this telescope is 650 mm. With a F5 aperture, the telescope is very suitable for faint objects such as nebulae or galaxies. The maximum useful magnification of the 130SLT is 260x and will give you a perfect and sharp image. If you try higher magnification, the image will be blurry and you will not be able to focus properly.
The telescope comes with an adjustable steel tripod, equipped with a storage area. The quick release mount allows you to quickly detach the compact and lightweight body from the tripod and take it with you in the car for travel and out-of-town viewing. Also included are two eyepieces, 25mm and 9mm, "The SkyX First Light edition" software and a Star Pointer type Red Dot viewfinder.
