The oldest Western European workshop for making shell jewellery discovered

Archaeologists have found the oldest known workshop for making necklaces and ornaments from mollusc shells in Western Europe. The finds date back to the Upper Palaeolithic, from the site of La Roche-à-Pierrot in the village of Saint-Césaire in the Charente-Maritime department. They are at least 42 000 years old.
