The National Library of the Czech Republic commemorates the 900th anniversary of the death of the chronicler Cosmas with the exhibition The Oldest Manuscripts. Almost all surviving medieval copies of the Bohemian Chronicle will be on display in the Mirror Chapel, including the famous Leipzig manuscript with an image of the author. The exhibition will last only one month.

In the north of Scotland, archaeologists have uncovered an unprecedented treasure trove. They found fragments of moulds for making weapons and jewellery in one of seven roundhouses. Most valuable was the discovery of a uniquely preserved tied treasure with a nearly 3,000-year-old lychee knot.

The exhibition will present the life of the Celts in East Bohemia in the Iron Age. You will see important archaeological findings, a 3D model of the oppida and replicas of objects that you will be able to try out. There will also be an opportunity to mint your own coin or taste Celtic cuisine. The opening will take place on Sunday 28 September at 4pm.

Archaeologists in northern Israel have found a 1,600-year-old coin hoard of extraordinary significance. It was discovered in a vast underground complex beneath the ruins of the ancient settlement of Chukok in the Lower Galilee. It is one of the few tangible records of the last known Jewish revolt against Roman rule in 351 AD.

This weekend was the last chance for summer observing and since the sky was supposed to be cloudless we went to Brda for the night. The weather was really good, although a nasty haze came from the west and it was not ideal. Still, still a lovely warm evening, with the smell of grass amidst the meadows everywhere and the starry sea above you. So what more could you ask for.
