In early January, detectorists in northern Poland near the town of Chełmno discovered dozens of bronze objects and ornaments along with numerous human remains of sacrificial rituals dating back to the Lusatian culture 2,500 years ago. This is a groundbreaking discovery - the first of its kind in Poland.

Detectorists discover the largest hoard of medieval gold and silver coins in 10 years

Over 600 silver and gold coins dating from the 14th century were discovered at a group detector event in Buckinghamshire three years ago in April. Experts say it is an exceptional find with extremely rare coins. The set was declared a treasure last week and estimated to be worth at least £4 million.

Austrian Find of the Century: Celtic gold and silver from Bohemia

A unique treasure trove of Celtic gold and silver jewellery and coins has been discovered in Austria. The sensational find may have been deposited as an offering to the gods in the 1st century BC. The main artefact of the assemblage is a solid gold tusk necklace, as well as a gold bracelet, four ornate gold rings and silver Boeotian coins.

The Danish National Museum pays tribute to amateurs with metal detectors with a special exhibition. The curators praise a specific Danish law that obliges detectorists to report and hand over their discoveries to museums in exchange for a reward - a finder's fee: "When the first metal detectors appeared in the 1980s, some wise museum directors were astute enough toand knew we had to work with these people," says National Museum curator Line Bjerg.
