2 100 years old gold coins in beef bone

The Lynn Museum's new exhibit is an intriguing reminder of a 19-year-old discovery. Specifically, a trove of golden staters from the 1st century BC that were embedded in a hollowed-out bovine femur. They were found using a metal detector during an archaeological excavation of an early medieval burial site.

Archaeological Society saves 1,700 items from sale in Anglo-Saxon collection

The collection of more than 1,700 Anglo-Saxon artefacts dating from the 6th to 7th centuries AD was acquired by the Kent Archaeological Society just before it managed to be sold at public auction last Friday. The Ozengell collection includes many beautiful pieces of jewellery, clasps, weapon fittings, glass, beads and pottery. All the items were found in an Anglo-Saxon burial ground near Ramsgate in Kent.

1000 year old Viking silver treasure

A 1,000-year-old hoard of silver necklaces, bracelets and coins has been discovered in Viggbyholm, Sweden, near Stockholm. Some of the coins come from Bohemia and other European countries, others are of Arabic origin. The quality of preservation of the jewellery and coins is remarkable, they are like new.
