A Germanic grave full of silver and gold artefacts was discovered in the eighteenth century by two peasants in the eastern Slovak village of Ósztrópatak when they went to church. The grave contained beautiful objects such as gold pins, bracelets and necklaces. However, some of the artefacts were melted down in 1799. The treasure weighed over thirteen kilos.

How did medieval physicians use pigeon feces, fox lungs or eel fat? This and much more will be revealed thanks to a new project by the University of Cambridge, which has launched the digitisation and preservation of 180 medieval medical manuscripts from its library collections. More than 8,000 medical prescriptions will be accessible to anyone via the internet. High-resolution scans of the manuscripts will be accompanied by transcripts of the texts with keyword search capabilities and detailed descriptions of the historical context.

A gold ring and a buckle from the period of the Migration of Peoples were discovered in Rakovník by two brothers working with archaeologists. The jewellery is inlaid with Bohemian garnets. They are currently on display in the museum as part of a new exhibition.

During earthworks in the Slovak village of Bíňa, Jozef Paulík discovered 107 gold coins. They come from the Byzantine Empire from the 5th century AD. The collection included coins of the emperors Arcadius, Valentinian III and Theodosius II. According to experts, they probably came to the territory of today's Slovakia thanks to a nomadic tribe of Huns.
