Rescue archaeological research began near the villages of Lety and Čimelice in Písek

A rescue archaeological excavation has begun near the villages of Lety and Čimelice in Písek during the completion of the D4 motorway, which is being carried out by the South Bohemian Museum in České Budějovice together with other entities. It is likely that, in addition to several already known sites, the construction will also affect other sites that are not yet known. This is a unique opportunity for archaeologists to get to know a relatively large part of the local landscape.

An Anglo-Saxon gold coin was discovered by a prospector using a metal detector on the Wiltshire and Hampshire border. It dates from the reign of King Egbert. It now sells for £200,000.

Almost fifteen hundred people died in the last cholera epidemic that hit Brno 155 years ago. It broke out simultaneously with the invasion of the Prussian army. A total of 2,813 people fell ill.

31 July 1965 Treasure discovered by a digger during the demolition of a house

A stoneware container with silver coins was found in 1965 by a digger in Ostrava. He reported the find honestly. Experts from the local museum were called to the site. The treasure was probably hidden by someone around 1623.

Finnish archaeologists have discovered a 4,400-year-old life-size wooden stick in the shape of a snake. It may have been a ritual tool of a Neolithic shaman.
