An incredible thing was discovered by archaeologists in a public latrine at the Chateau Fontainebleau near Paris. It was the hairpin of Queen Catherine de' Medici.

The largest Roman penis ever found in Córdoba

A bas-relief of a phallus over half a metre long has been discovered on the wall of a massive Roman building in Nueva Carteya, Spain. The symbol, believed by the Romans to ward off evil curses and bring good luck, was carved into the front profile of the limestone stone at the base of the tower-like structure. It is one of the largest pyjamas ever discovered in the Roman world, possibly the largest ever, according to archaeologists.

20. 5. 2019 The grave of a Celtic warrior in Dubany

Archaeologists hardly find any graves from the Latin period, which is why the find in Dubany in Pardubice was truly exceptional. They found a 2200-year-old grave of a Celtic warrior there. In addition to a nearly complete skeleton, it also contained an iron sword and several bronze rings.

19 May 1790 Gold from the Germanic grave

A Germanic grave full of silver and gold artefacts was discovered in the eighteenth century by two peasants in the eastern Slovak village of Ósztrópatak when they went to church. The grave contained beautiful objects such as gold pins, bracelets and necklaces. However, some of the artefacts were melted down in 1799. The treasure weighed over thirteen kilos.

How did medieval physicians use pigeon feces, fox lungs or eel fat? This and much more will be revealed thanks to a new project by the University of Cambridge, which has launched the digitisation and preservation of 180 medieval medical manuscripts from its library collections. More than 8,000 medical prescriptions will be accessible to anyone via the internet. High-resolution scans of the manuscripts will be accompanied by transcripts of the texts with keyword search capabilities and detailed descriptions of the historical context.
