Excavator unearths thousand-year-old "Viking" sword in perfect condition

During the reconstruction of the banks of the Korte Linschoten river in Montfoort, the Netherlands, a thousand-year-old sword with inlays and significant symbolism was discovered. It was dug up by an excavator during the dredging of a dyke. The sword is very well preserved, incredibly light and dexterous. It was obviously custom-made, and must have been one of the absolute finest in its day.

It is no secret that I have been interested in sacramentals and crosses for many years. So not only what are the variants, types and methods of production, but also their fate. Some are common, some are little seen, and above all there is a huge variation. In my self-study, I have several times considered the ways in which they were probably worn and preserved. Today we can document with some certainty that their protective capabilities were exploited, they were nailed to gates, into the sheds of buildings and the roofs of churches.
