30 May 1434 Battle of Lipan

The last great Hussite battle took place on 30 May 1434. Nearly two thousand people died at Lipany, including Prokop Holý. The result of the clash opened the way for Sigismund to the Czech throne.

Edvard Benes was born Eduard. He changed his first name during his studies. His father owned a farm, which he kept expanding. He wanted his youngest son to be a shoemaker, but he chose another path.

USS Nevada

About 120 kilometres southwest of Pearl Harbor, underwater archaeologists have discovered the wreck of the legendary USS Nevada. It served in the US Navy for 35 years, eventually sinking after nuclear testing.

27 May 1942 Assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

Reinhard Heydrich was a fanatical Nazi and the third most important man in Hitler's Germany. He even had an SS-3 license plate on his Mercedes. He planned the liquidation of the Czech nation, instead he was himself liquidated on May 27, 1942 by a pair of assassins.

26.5. 1876 František Palacký died

The funeral of František Palacký was spoken of as the royal funeral and the grandest since the death of Charles IV. The "Father of the Nation" died on May 26, 1876.

War bunker in the garden

In the garden of his house, Lee Moran and his daughter discovered a hidden World War II bunker. Although the existence of the shelter was publicly discussed, there was no tangible mention of it anywhere. And so it remained hidden for decades.

25 May 1948 Execution of soldier Witold Pilecki

He volunteered to be imprisoned in the Auschwitz concentration camp to find out what was being done to the prisoners there. But no one trusted the Polish soldier Witold Pilecki. After the war, he also stood up to the communists, who had him executed on 25 May 1948.

24 May 1934 Masaryk becomes president for the fourth time

Masaryk was elected president four times. The last time was on 24 May 1934. However, due to his deteriorating health, he decided to resign a year later in December; the abdication speech was delivered by Chancellor Přemysl Šámal.
