2 100 years old gold coins in beef bone

The Lynn Museum's new exhibit is an intriguing reminder of a 19-year-old discovery. Specifically, a trove of golden staters from the 1st century BC that were embedded in a hollowed-out bovine femur. They were found using a metal detector during an archaeological excavation of an early medieval burial site.

Archaeological Society saves 1,700 items from sale in Anglo-Saxon collection

The collection of more than 1,700 Anglo-Saxon artefacts dating from the 6th to 7th centuries AD was acquired by the Kent Archaeological Society just before it managed to be sold at public auction last Friday. The Ozengell collection includes many beautiful pieces of jewellery, clasps, weapon fittings, glass, beads and pottery. All the items were found in an Anglo-Saxon burial ground near Ramsgate in Kent.

Some of the coins come from Bohemia and other European countries, others are of Arabic origin. The quality of preservation of the jewellery and coins is remarkable, they are like new.

Viking amulet found in Sweden - symbol of last stand against emerging Christianity

A rare lead pendant in the shape of Thor's hammer has been discovered by archaeologists in Ysby in the southwestern Swedish province of Halland. The hammer, dating from the late 10th century, was found on the site of a planned housing development. Previous excavations here have revealed archaeological remains from different periods, but this is the first Viking artefact found here and the first Thor's hammer ever found in the entire province...

US ID stamps near Pilsen on CNN

A young Czech near Pilsen has made an extraordinary discovery. Jaroslav Ševčík and his family, with the help of a metal detector, found the so-called dog tags, or military identification tags of an American soldier, in the woods near the West Bohemian metropolis. American media, including CNN, began reporting on his discovery.
