Detectorist discovers 1,700-year-old hoard of Roman silver coins

An amateur prospector with a metal detector stumbled upon a unique coin hoard near the town of Padea in the Romanian district of Dolj, about 150 km west of Bucharest on the Romanian-Bulgarian border. The hoard contained 1,168 Roman silver coins dating from the third century, when the area was wracked by heavy fighting.

A burial site from the Celtic period was found during construction work in the Sendling district of Munich. Some of the graves had very high quality equipment, including 2300-year-old, well-preserved scissors whose blades are still sharp and, according to experts, "could still be used today..."

5.5.1950 Hrozov treasure

The treasure was found 73 years ago on the bank of the Hrozovský brook. They were bronze coins. Interestingly, they came from the region of Carthage. The oldest coin from the depot dates back to around 200 BC.

Detectorist discovers Viking silver coins and jewellery from the 10th century

Two 1,000-year-old Viking silver treasures from the reign of King Harald the Wise were discovered in a cornfield near Bramslev in northern Jutland using a metal detector. The two sets lay just 50 metres apart. Originally they were even closer, but agricultural activity has disturbed their position and moved the contents.
