Pustiměř Castle in written and archaeological sources

We invite you to an expert lecture on the extinct castle of Pustiměř (Melice), led by archaeologists from Archaeological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno. You will learn what written sources and modern archaeological research reveal about this exceptional site. The event will take place on Wednesday 25 February at 5 pm in the Chapel of St. Anne in Vyškov. Free admission.

1,000-year-old chief's tomb filled with gold

The Ministry of Culture of Panama announced the discovery of an extraordinary tomb in the archaeological complex of El Caño. Inside were the human remains of several individuals, headed by a high-ranking person, literally surrounded by dozens of gold objects, necklaces, earrings, pectorals and many other artifacts made of precious metals and fine ceramics.

A beautiful Bronze Age sword reveals the secrets of its manufacture

In 2023, a 3,400-year-old bronze sword was discovered in Germany, which immediately attracted attention for its preservation. The weapon is complete from pommel to tip, still retains its original shine in places and its blade is still sharpened. It has now been subjected to a detailed analysis which has revealed exceptionally valuable details about the process of its manufacture and a surprising decoration technique.

What you are, we were...

The exhibition What You Were, We Were... presents the results of archaeological research of the extinct cemetery at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Kardašova Řečice. Visitors will see devotionals from human graves and medieval pottery documenting the earliest development of the town. The exhibition runs from 3 March to 31 May 2026 in Museum of Jindřichův Hradec.

Broumov Region - roots and changes

The exhibition Broumov Region - Roots and Transformations will take you to the unique border region Broumovskowhere human fates, architecture and the memory of the landscape intertwine. Through documentary photographs and the memories of witnesses, you will get a glimpse of the region's changes from the post-war years to the present day. The exhibition takes place in National Museum of Agriculture in Prague from 13 February to 28 June 2026.

Detectorist finds gold royal jewel, museum buys it for nearly 100 million

An exceptional gold pendant from the Tudor period, the Tudor Heart, has been acquired for the British Museum's collections through a public collection. In the end, a full £3.5 million was raised, a tenth of which came from small donors - the public. The finder's fee will come to a handsome £49 million, with the same amount going to the landowner.
