A beautiful gold necklace and other valuables in a rich Anglo-Saxon grave

During rescue research prior to the construction of a new housing estate in the English village of Harvpole, a a rare seventh-century bed grave with the richest grave goods of the period ever found. The assemblage included a beautiful Anglo-Saxon necklace of gold, garnets and semi-precious stones, Frankish vessels and a massive silver cross with human faces.

Many prospectors with metal detectors dream of finding a gold coin. Edward Hynes from the Canadian island of Newfoundland has succeeded. While walking along the south coast, he came across a 15th-century gold coin.

Unique early medieval gold brooch and other valuables in graves from the 7th century.

Earlier this year, a rescue archaeological excavation was carried out in the Kleinbasel district of Basel prior to the installation of a new hot water pipeline. The excavations uncovered fifteen richly furnished graves with many gold and silver valuables, jewellery and beads. The discoveries confirm a much larger settlement than experts had anticipated.
