10 April 1348 On the order of Charles IV, the construction of Karlštejn begins

Around 200 thousand visitors come there every year. Karlštejn is one of the most popular castles in the Czech Republic. The builder Matthias of Arras started building it on 10 April 1348, following the example of Charles IV.

Leiden museum buys rare Viking jewel discovered by metal detector

A silver braided pendant in the shape of a ring was acquired by the Dutch museum Rijksmuseum van Oudheden (RMO) in Leiden. It was discovered while searching in a ploughed cornfield near Hoogwoud on Christmas Eve last year. It has now become part of the national collection - it was bought from the detectorist for an as yet undisclosed price. The museum ranks it as one of the most important finds of the period, and adds it to a unique collection of other jewels from a hoard at nearby Westerklief...

He considered the Freemasons to be the architects of Germany's defeat in the First World War, and even sympathised with the NSDAP. General Erich Ludendorff was unable to acknowledge his share of the blame, which was evident in his war memoirs. He was born on 9 April 1865.

8.4.1944 The Crimean offensive began

The Crimean offensive, which was to lead to the liberation of the island from Germany and its allies, began on 8 April 1944. According to some historians, this operation is one of the ten most important moments of World War II that decided the defeat of Adolf Hitler.

7 April 1944 Escape of Vrba and Wetzler from Auschwitz

During the Second World War they were sent to Auschwitz, where they stayed for about two years. Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler managed to escape from the concentration camp on 7 April 1944. They gave testimony about the atrocities the Nazis committed against the Jews. This information was leaked to the BBC and the New York Times.

6.4. 1250 Crusade: the king fell into captivity

The Seventh Crusade lasted six years (1248 to 1254). A major turning point occurred on April 6, 1250, when the French king Louis IX fell with his army into Saracen captivity. He had to surrender the conquered city of Dimyat on the Mediterranean coast.

5 April 1914 Sergeant Arnošt Hrad was born

He rejected the Munich Agreement and did not want to leave the fortress at the Polish border. Arnošt Hrad committed suicide as a twenty-four-year-old youth, before writing three suicide notes. He was born on April 5, 1914.

On the night of June 14, 1838, a boiler on the steam excursion boat Pulaski exploded off the coast of North Carolina. Within a short time, the ship sank with 128 people on board, including U.S. Congressman William B. Rochester and many other wealthy and prominent individuals. Only 59 lucky people survived. 4.4. 1969 Evžen Plocek burnt himself

After Jan Palach and Jan Zajic, he was torch No. 3, but he was different from the previous two. He was not in his student years, and even belonged to the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Evžen Plocek burned himself to death on 4 April 1969 in Jihlava at the Plague Column.

3. 4. 1977 Wilhelm Friedrich Boger died

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Wilhelm Friedrich Boger also died in prison on 3 April 1977. However, he managed to evade justice for many years.
