13 Nov 2009 Premyslids counterfeited money, discovery shows

Archaeologists in Žatec made an interesting discovery twelve years ago. They discovered the third workshop where silver was processed three years ago. There were objects for melting and processing silver. The discovery is said to prove that the Premyslids counterfeited money.

Detectorists find beautifully decorated Viking brooches; changing the history of the Isle of Man

About 10 cm long, oval bronze brooches of convex shape with silver wire decoration and bird reliefs date from around 950 AD. They were worn in pairs exclusively by Viking women to fasten the straps of their dresses. Although the Isle of Man is famous for Viking finds, no brooches of this type have been found here until now.

12.11.1886 Langobard gold ring from Hrádek

Shrouded in mystery remains the discovery of the golden Langobard ring 135 years ago. It was discovered by archaeologist and Čáslav native Kliment Čermák in Čáslav. No one can explain how the jewel got into the archaeological layer from the eighth century.

11.11. 2015 Coins discovered in Vraclav, where the murder of the Vršov family took place

Dozens of early medieval coins were discovered by archaeologists six years ago at the Vraclav hillfort in the Orlickoústec region. The site is famous for the murder of the Vršovci. Among the coins found was a Byzantine follis.

Early medieval gold cross with runes reveals unknown Anglo-Saxon name

A gold cross-shaped pendant discovered near Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, England, bears an inscription with the hitherto unknown Anglo-Saxon name "Eadruf". It was found by a prospector with a metal detector on the banks of the River Tweed. Very few comparable examples are known to date, and this cross is the only one with runic inscriptions.

10.11.2018 Sixty gold ducats

Sixty gold ducats were awarded to the Regional Museum in Vysoké Mýto three years ago. The treasure was hidden just a few centimetres below the surface. Someone probably hid it in the 1930s.

9.11.2011 Celtic settlement near Nové Mlýn

The remains of a large Celtic settlement were discovered by archaeologists ten years ago in Novosedle in the Breclav region when they were digging up dirt for the construction of a dam. Especially because of the location of the settlement, it was a rarity.

8.11.2011 Finding of a Gothic cathedral

Archaeologists uncovered the remains of the masonry of the Gothic cathedral ten years ago on the castle hill in Litomyšl. They also discovered 150 boxes of small artefacts. These included fragments of pottery, tiles, floor coverings and human bones.
