It was known as Naples. Today, however, this ancient Roman city no longer exists. It was destroyed by a tsunami about 1,700 years ago. Archaeologists found its remains four years ago.

The preserved Viking sword was found four years ago by Tuomas Pietilä, an archaeologist, using a metal detector. The artefact dates from around the year 1000. It was in a shallow grave.

The precious cargo arrived six years ago from Kabul, Afghanistan, to the Czech Republic. Archaeologists "brought back" 145 artefacts, which they later presented to the public. It was a unique collection, unprecedented in Europe until then.

2. 10. 2015 Renaissance decorated cups in the waste pit

Rare Renaissance decorated cups and goblets were discovered by archaeologists in a waste pit in Olomouc. They came across them during a rescue survey at a construction site in Sokolská Street. They date from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

A golden bowl and hundreds of preserved Bronze Age objects in a swamp near Vienna

In Ebreichsdorf, Austria, 30 km south of Vienna, a 3,000-year-old extremely rare gold bowl of the Urnfield culture with a sun motif was discovered. It was found as part of rescue work before the planned construction of a railway station. The bowl contained other gold objects and organic remains. This is the first find of its kind in Austria...

Archaeologists have discovered toys in Uherské Hradiště that children played with hundreds of years ago. Specifically, clay and glass marbles, small vessels or a miniature piece of a spindle. In the grounds of the monastery at Velehrad, archaeologists found an intact Romanesque mosaic pavement.

30 Sep 2012 Thracian tomb with golden treasure

The golden treasure was discovered by archaeologists in 2012 in Bulgaria. Bracelets with snake heads and a crown with animal motifs were found in a Thracian tomb. The burial site was near the village of Sveštari.
