19.2.2010 Unique engraved drawing at Prague Castle

A unique engraved drawing was discovered by archaeologists eleven years ago at Prague Castle. It was during rescue research of the so-called Middle Wing, where the information centre is located. It was the first such find on the territory of the capital.

A shocking message from the past: children's identification stamps in the Sobibor extermination camp

Excavations at the Sobibor extermination camp in Poland have revealed four identification marks of murdered Jewish children. All came from Amsterdam, which was part of the targeted extermination of Dutch Jews in the spring and summer of 1943. Archaeologists found a rare Celtic furnace from the Caesarian period during the modernisation of the so-called Apponyi Palace in Bratislava. In addition, there was a grave from the Great Moravian period under the building.

The beautiful find was made by amateur archaeologist Martin Skříček in the autumn of 2015 and was reported by the media in February of the following year. He discovered thirty coins from the Thirty Years' War on the edge of the woods of Woodhostice Forest using a metal detector.

He was working with a neighbour in his garden in Kunovice, Uhersko Hradiště, when they discovered a bone. Experts subsequently searched the site and unearthed a ritual double grave about 3,500 years old. The remains belonged to a young man and a young woman.
