An archaeological excavation in the village of Akasztó in southern Hungary has yielded the extraordinary discovery of three richly furnished graves of elite cavalry warriors from the period of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. They were young boys and an adult man - all related. The graves contained weapons, jewellery, rare silver coins, gold and silver decorated belts, including a horse harness. They were dated between 920 and 930 AD and are among the most important discoveries from this period.

Archaeologists in Shaanxi province have uncovered a luxurious Tang Dynasty tomb. Its chamber was in pristine condition and lavishly furnished; it contained pottery, bronze objects, gold and silver artifacts, including a gold comb or Western-style silver cup or Persian silver coins. The tomb is also unique for its surviving inscriptions: they reveal the owner's name, her status and date of death.
