The unique find was reported three years ago by researchers from the Institute of Archaeological Heritage Care in Brno. They found a clay statue of a man with a bronze pearl in his chest near Otrokovice. Something similar is unprecedented in our territory. The artefact is over three thousand years old.

Northern Germany's oldest shoe discovered

Archaeologists from the Lower Saxony State Heritage Office (NLD) in cooperation with the mining company Vechta found a well-preserved leather shoe. Together with various parts of the wagon, it had been hanging in the peat bog right next to an old plank path for more than 2,000 years.

Excavations of a burial site in the ancient Roman city of Boutae in southeastern France have revealed richly furnished Germanic tombs dating from the second half of the 5th century. Research suggests that a stable Burgundian population lived in the Rhineland as early as 443.

A strong storm was enough to keep the cavers busy. Fourteen years ago, the courtyard of the castle in Mikulov collapsed. Experts subsequently discovered that there was a cave leading under the castle itself.

Archaeologists have managed to find a clay jug with 870 silver coins in the village of Lučivná in the Tatra foothills. Coins of the Hungarian, Silesian, Tyrolean, Lower Austrian, Moravian and Olomouc archbishopric dominated the collection.
