Last year's storm Filomena near Grado in the Spanish region of Asturias produced heavy snow and freezing rain. Apparently at the time, a badger was searching a cave near its den in a desperate attempt to find food. While digging one of the holes, he came across the largest collection of Roman coins ever discovered in northern Spain.

Twenty thousand twenty-dollar coins were carried by the paddle-wheel steamer Republic, which left New York on October 18, 1865. Two days later, however, a storm hit the ship and its cargo went down. The treasure was not recovered by underwater archaeologists until 2003.

I recently presented here through a brief article the discovery of 31 images, representingof art objects looted at the end of April 1945 by SS soldiers at Konopiště and the search for them. As I wrote last time, among the objects in the pictures there are several that were not stolen at that time and remained in the castle. One of them is a beautiful massive gold bracelet with a portrait miniature.

A small but very rare depot was discovered four years ago by archaeologists in the Velké Meziříčí cadastre. They came across a metal clasp from the older Roman period. It was used to fasten clothes. The object is in the collection of the Museum of the Wallachia Region.

At the end of 1980, the corpse of archaeologist József Sümegh was discovered in a cellar on Köszár Hill, where he had committed suicide. He is said to have discovered about forty silver artefacts, including large wrought-iron bowls, jars and other decorated vessels. The so-called Seuso treasure was recovered by Hungary six years ago.

Four years ago, archaeologists set to work in the area of Pasohlávky, where the largest aquapark in South Moravia is located today. They discovered part of a Roman gold coin and many other artefacts. The site is one of the richest archaeological sites in the country.

Cai Antoney recently discovered a Bronze Age axe and dagger in Shropshire. He made the discovery during an organised search involving three dozen people. He found the treasure while walking back to his car.
