Archaeologists in Marina el-Alamein, Egypt, have uncovered 18 tombs dating from the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. The finds link traditional Egyptian funeral rituals with Greco-Roman culture. Alongside a statuette of Aphrodite and ancient artefacts, 24 gold leaflets were found in the mouths of the deceased, intended to enable them to speak before the gods in the afterlife.

Metal detectorist Morten Eek discovered a small object near a Norwegian monastery, which he initially took to be an ordinary button.
