Detectives find Roman hoard of silver coins

Two prospectors with metal detectors have discovered a ploughed-up depot of hundreds of Roman coins in a field near South Brent. The earliest coins date from the beginning of the century. They are among the largest known finds of Roman coinage from Devon. The coins have now been declared a treasure trove.

Six-year-old boy finds 1,300-year-old sword on school trip

First grade pupils from Fredheim School in Brandb, Norway, had a trip they will never forget. During a spring walk, Henrik Refsnes Mørtvedt noticed a strange piece of rusty metal sticking out of the ground. He thought it was old scrap metal or part of a tool, but curiosity won out. It was a medieval sword.

Metal detector finds Britain's largest Iron Age treasure; now on display

An exhibition has opened at the Yorkshire Museum which, for the first time ever, introduces the public to one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent decades in Britain. The treasure was discovered in December 2021 by metal detectorist prospectorist Peter Heads near the village of Melsonby in North Yorkshire. The assemblage contains over 800 Iron Age objects. The value exceeds 7.3 million crowns.
