Excavations of a burial site in the ancient Roman city of Boutae in southeastern France have revealed richly furnished Germanic tombs dating from the second half of the 5th century. Research suggests that a stable Burgundian population lived in the Rhineland as early as 443.

A strong storm was enough to keep the cavers busy. Fourteen years ago, the courtyard of the castle in Mikulov collapsed. Experts subsequently discovered that there was a cave leading under the castle itself.

Archaeologists have managed to find a clay jug with 870 silver coins in the village of Lučivná in the Tatra foothills. Coins of the Hungarian, Silesian, Tyrolean, Lower Austrian, Moravian and Olomouc archbishopric dominated the collection.

Detectorists have found a rare set of Carolingian silver coins, possibly from a Viking ransom

In a field near the town of Biskupiec in northeastern Poland, detectorists have discovered a treasure trove of silver coins from the Carolingian period. The roughly 1,200-year-old coin set may have been part of a historic ransom to protect Paris from a Viking invasion.

Archaeologists found a bucket helmet from the late fourteenth century thirteen years ago in the Bystřice region. It probably dates back to the turbulent times of the Margrave Wars. It was probably owned by a nobleman.

In 2013, Slovak archaeologists discovered a treasure trove of copper coins quite by chance during their excavation work. They were found in the soil of a medieval castle above the village of Vinné in the Michalovce district.
