1.1.2016 Tudor jewellery in the Thames

The pile of Tudor jewellery was collected by prospectors with metal detectors in England. The ornaments were gradually found in the River Thames and shown to the public five years ago. In addition to beads and studs, the hoard also contained so-called aglets.

Pot

Polish archaeologists were shocked when they discovered a clay pot in a cornfield in December. It was filled to the brim with medieval coins. In total, they counted about 6,500 of them. That could buy a whole village. According to a preliminary hypothesis, the pot with the coins belonged to a Polish nobleman.

Three thousand year old jewel

The rare gold bead was found by a nine-year-old boy in Israel. The 3,000-year-old jewel is made of tiny beads. It's a typical method of the so-called First Temple period.

Commodus "became famous" as a cruel Roman emperor. He killed animals and beat people to death who were amputees. The senators conspired to poison the ruler. But he vomited up the poison and was strangled by his fitness trainer.

Archaeologists rejoiced at the excellent discovery at the end of December 2012. In Iraq's Wasit province, they unearthed 66 gold coins that are at least 1,400 years old.
