Archaeologists recover unique ancient objects from Tuscan hot springs

San Casciano dei Bagni is one of Italy's top destinations with hot springs that have been visited for over 2,000 years. The present-day town is located just a few metres from the ancient spa complex. Archaeologists have discovered thousands of well-preserved artefacts here. They are revealing new insights into the interconnectedness of the cultures of the time with healing springs and religion.

11. 5. 2019 Air-raid shelter in Brno

A significant find was made during a long-term research carried out by archaeologists in Brno. Specifically, they focused on the site in Vídeňská Street, where they discovered a part of an air-raid shelter from the Second World War. It may have been intended for a nearby hospital.

Stolen Viking treasure bought and returned home

In 2015, detectorists George Powell and Layton Davies found a hoard of around 300 Saxon coins, jewellery and other valuables, probably deposited by the Vikings in the 10th century, in a field near Leominster.

New treasures of the Spanish galleon 366 years after the sinking

In 1656, the Spanish ship Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas (Our Lady of Wonders) was wrecked on the west side of Little Bahama Bank about 70 km off the coast. It was literally stuffed with treasure, which is why it was repeatedly plundered by various societies and wild expeditions over the following centuries. When another expedition went to the site recently, few imagined there was anything left on the seabed...

10.5.1950 Celtic coins have been lying in the attic for 18 years

The vessel full of Celtic-Dacific coins was discovered in 1950 by Jozef Drabant when he was ploughing a field in the village of Ptičie. He hid the treasure in the attic, where it was found eighteen years later. 237 coins were saved. Drabant's son received 20 crowns for each piece. Some thought he had become a millionaire...

9. 5. 2019 Rare axe decorated with silver

The rare artefact was discovered three years ago by an unknown finder in the Hradec Králové region. It was an iron axe decorated with silver. Nothing similar had been found in the Czech Republic until then. The axe probably dates back to the Great Moravian period. The finder was rewarded with 60,000 crowns.
