Like everyone else at the end of the year, we at LP will be taking a bit of stock, and this time it will be all about the searchers who work with archaeologists.

1500 kg of bronze coins half a metre underground

A huge hoard of 1.5-ton bronze coins from the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties was discovered in the eastern Chinese village of Shuangdun in Jiangsu province. The coins were connected by straw strings and arranged in neat rows.

Avatar of Egtvedpigen, or: the Bronze Age Girl Speaks

In 1921, the grave of a young Bronze Age woman was discovered near the village of Egtved in southeast Denmark. It was found when a farmer dug through her coffin with a shovel while digging a burial mound. The coffin with the remains was later stored in a museum and now, using the latest 3D virtualisation techniques, has been 'brought to life' to bring the past as close as possible to the visitors it speaks to, waves to and greets.

Bronze Age treasure stolen twice over

In the Polish village of Kalisce near Biały Bór in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, two treasures from the Late Bronze Age were discovered "lying" on top of each other. They are one of the largest and most varied collections not only in Pomerania, they are also unique in Poland. Unfortunately, the context of the deposition of the finds was irretrievably destroyed during their double illegal retrieval.

The oldest narrative scene discovered: man with penis in hand being followed by animals

A carved stone bench with reliefs of animal and human figures was discovered in southeastern Turkey, with the main motif of a man holding a naked phallus. It represents the oldest known depiction of a narrative scene (story) and reflects the complex relationship between humans, natural forces and the animal world that surrounded them 11,000 years ago.
