World's oldest amputation rewrites existing understanding of prehistoric medicine

The journal Nature brought a huge sensation: a Neolithic skeleton with a surgically amputated leg was discovered in the Liang Tebo cave on the island of Borneo. It is by far the oldest confirmed surgical amputation, dating back 31,000 years! The previous one was "only" 7,000 years old. The discovery fundamentally changes the scientific view of the development of prehistoric medicine.

Poles find mass graves of Nazi victims

Graves with the remains of 8 000 people were found by investigators in Poland near the site of the Soldau concentration camp. The Germans wanted to hide the burial pits. They burned the bodies, buried them and planted trees. The victims included members of the Polish elite, soldiers, resistance fighters and Jews.

Renaissance cups and ducats were found by workers during the reconstruction of the house No. 252 U Modré Hvězdy on the square in Týn nad Vltavou. There are several theories as to who owned and hid the objects. According to experts, it is a very rare Renaissance work.

264 gold coins under the floor

Incredibly lucky was the couple who discovered 264 gold coins under the floor of a house in the North Yorkshire village of Ellerby. The depot was in a pot. The finders plan to sell the treasure at auction for at least £250,000.
