When they began to repair the facade of the church nine years ago, they had no idea what a surprise awaited them. Workers came across a hole that led directly into the tomb. Beneath the Church of the Assumption in Jevíček, members of the Salm-Neuburg family were buried.

31 Aug 2010 A gun found in a dam that was being drained

The exposed bottom of the Plumlov Dam attracts searchers. Eleven years ago, they even found a gun there. The dam was built on the Hloučela River about three kilometres from Prostějov.

30 Aug 2012 Sword from the Crusades

A rare sword from the early Middle Ages was discovered nine years ago by a prospector with a metal detector in the Písek Mountains. Someone probably lost it in the 13th century. It was restored by experts from the Teplice Museum.

Celtic graves in South Moravia

Celtic graves from the 4th to 3rd century BC were found by archaeologists on the outskirts of Kuřim in the Brno region. One contained a warrior with a well-preserved sword, while another contained the remains of a woman buried with bronze jewellery.

The atrocities that took place in the Auschwitz concentration camp probably need not even be mentioned. Evidence of them can still be found today. Eleven years ago, for example, 150 surgical instruments.

Archaeologists carried out extensive research on a hilltop in Litomyšl. They discovered a medieval cemetery with hundreds of bones, including a mass grave of a child. There was also a defensive system or a gallery.

27 Aug 2013 The bridge that Hitler apparently had concrete poured over

The remains of a bridge with an interesting history were discovered by conservationists near the railway station in Ústí nad Orlicí. It dates back to 1844 and rumour has it that Adolf Hitler had it covered with concrete a hundred years later.
