13.2.1960 Czech Egyptologist František Lexa died

Czech Egyptology has gained fame all over the world. Its foundations were laid by Professor František Lexa, whose teachers included Alois Jirásek. He translated one chapter of the Book of the Dead into Czech and was dean of Charles University. He died on 13 February 1960.

A staggering 750kg pile of coins from the 2012 discovery by detectorists Reg Mead and Richard Miles was recently recognised as a new world record for the number of coins in a single Iron Age assemblage. With a total of 69,347 Roman and Celtic coins, the depot surpassed the 42-year-old find of 54,951 coins in Wiltshire.

10.2.1763 - Confirmed the agreement to end the Seven Years' War

The Seven Years' War is referred to as the first global conflict. It took place between 1756 and 1763, in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and on the oceans. The conflict was only ended by the Treaty of Paris, ratified on 10 February 1763.

9.2.1003 Bloody Feast at Vyšehrad

"A hateful and wicked family," is how the chronicler Kosmas describes the Vršov family. It is with them that one of the darkest moments in Czech history during the Middle Ages is connected. During the so-called bloody feast at Vyšehrad on 9 February 1003, the family was murdered.

8.2.1944 They approved the plan of Operation Overloard

It took over two years to prepare and is still one of the most important milestones of the Second World War. Codenamed Operation Overlord, the offensive has been mapped in detail by history, many books have been written about it and several films have been made. This plan to open the Western Front was finally approved on February 8, 1944.

7. 2. 999 Died Czech prince Boleslav II.

He was one of the favourites of the chronicler Kosmas. It was he who described the Bohemian prince Boleslaus II as the father of orphans, the comforter of widows and the most Christian man. This monarch of the Přemyslid family died on 6 February 999 at the age of about 65, and is buried in the Basilica of St. George at Prague Castle.

6.2.1228 - Wenceslas I was crowned King of Bohemia.

Václav I was the twenty-eighth Přemyslid to the throne. His father Přemysl Otakar I initiated him into the duties of ruler from childhood. He was aware that the future King of Bohemia was a gifted young man, but at the same time a profligate indulger. The coronation took place on 6 February 1228.

Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities last Thursday announced what is reportedly one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent years: The tombs of the high priests - worshippers of the god Thoth, their families and top officials from three dynasties.

5.2. 62 Sixty percent of Pompeii was destroyed

The destruction of Pompeii as a result of the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 is widely known. But the inhabitants of this ancient city also experienced a natural disaster on 5 February seventeen years earlier. Sixty per cent of Pompeii was destroyed by a violent earthquake.
