A father of two (44) found a gold brooch with emeralds in a field near Cardigan, West Wales, using a metal detector. The jewellery is worth at least £10,000, according to experts. It dates back to the thirteenth century.

A total of 4,500 ancient coins were discovered by archaeologists in Portugal fourteen years ago. The money was found in the wall of a former forge, where the owner had hidden it in a pouch and never retrieved it. The coins were bronze and copper.

Part of a clay statue of a female body was discovered by archaeologists twelve years ago near Mohelno in the Třebíč region. It was located at the site of a prehistoric settlement from the Younger Bronze Age. It originally measured up to forty centimetres.

I recently managed to discover 31 images capturing some of the subjects (this is just a small fraction!; mainly various miniatures on ivory and also jars and clocks) that were looted by SS soldiers at Konopiště on 27th and 28th April 1945 and taken to Kufstein in Austria (Tyrol). At that time, at the end of the Second World War, 31 crates were taken from Konopiště (numbers 1-22 and numbers I-X; except for one crate - supposedly number 2, which was saved!). A large number of objects (mostly precious metals, e.g. coins and medals, but also others) were looted from the crates and stolen

Nearly ten thousand Roman coins have been discovered by a metal detectorist in Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire). He found the treasure three years ago, and the media has now reported on it. The money was probably hidden by someone in the third century when the riots broke out.
