Soon after the discovery of only the third known interstellar object, 3I/ATLAS attracted the attention of astronomers and the general public. Shortly afterwards, speculation arose as to whether this extraordinary visitor might bear the footprints of a technologically advanced civilisation. Now, a new study has been published that focuses on the search for so-called technosignatures - specifically, artificially generated radio signals.

If all goes well, we will be able to observe and photograph deep-sky objects until at least 10 pm, when fog may form in some areas.

In the northern hemisphere, this means the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Here, the day lasts just over eight hours, while the night offers an exceptionally long viewing window that it would be a shame not to take advantage of.

The student managed to record a rare phenomenon - a brief flash of light on an unlit part of the Moon, caused by a small meteoroid hitting its surface. The event was captured on December 12 by a robotic telescope. It represents the first such video taken from within Ireland and the second overall in the UK.
