The year 2025 brings a cometary treat to the skies. C/2025 A6 (Lemmon), discovered earlier this year at the Mount Lemmon Observatory in Arizona, has a good chance of becoming one of the most interesting objects of late autumn. If the weather cooperates, we may even see it with the naked eye.

A new comet has appeared in the sky, but it has a very special origin. The designation 3I/ATLAS reveals that this is only the third known interstellar object to enter our solar system. Its orbit is clear evidence that it is "not domestic" - the comet is moving on a highly hyperbolic trajectory and at a speed that rules it out. It arrived in our solar system from interstellar space, most likely from a region towards Sagittarius.

This weekend was the last chance for summer observing and since the sky was supposed to be cloudless we went to Brda for the night. The weather was really good, although a nasty haze came from the west and it was not ideal. Still, still a lovely warm evening, with the smell of grass amidst the meadows everywhere and the starry sea above you. So what more could you ask for.
